Micro needling: About

SMP SCALP TATTOOING

Scalp micropigmentation, also known as a hair tattoo, can cover bald spots or thinning hair without surgery and is also used to hide scars after hair transplant surgery or any scars on the scalp. Density tattoos are ideal for both men and women wanting a fuller, more dense look of hair. It creates the illusion of more hair.

The treatment can also give the illusion of having shaved hair or a “buzz cut” on people who are bald. Scalp micropigmentation is noninvasive and doesn’t require surgery or anesthesia.

Scalp Micropigmentation is the process of using tiny needles to implant pigment into the scalp – similar to cosmetic make-up tattooing and body art tattooing. The needles make small impressions that look like hair stubble lasting 3-5 years approximately.

Who is scalp micropigmentation for?
The treatment can create the appearance of thicker hair in people who have:

  • Alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss.

  • Chemotherapy-related hair loss.

  • Hair loss in women and men

  • Hormonal conditions that cause hair loss, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

  • Male pattern baldness, receding hairline or baldness at the crown of the head.

  • Thin hair or scalp show-through.

  • Scars or birthmarks on the scalp.

How does SMP work, and who can benefit from it?

The goal of SMP isn’t to create hairlike lines as you would when microblading eyebrows, but instead to use tiny, layered dots in different hues of black to replicate the look of a shadow on your scalp. This style, referred to as pointillism, is done to create natural-looking depth and definition.

A skilled practitioner will work to ensure the dots look like a natural hair follicle and blend in seamlessly with your complexion.

This process may be useful for people who experience all forms of hair loss. This includes people with:

  • cancer

  • alopecia

  • thinning hair

  • male and female pattern baldness

Procedure Details
What happens before scalp micropigmentation?
Before scalp micropigmentation:

  • Wash your hair and scalp before your appointment.

  • When you arrive, your tattooist marks the areas of the scalp that will be tattooed.

  • If you’re bald, you and the tattooist may create a hairline based on your facial structure, age and head shape.

  • Your tattooist will choose pigments that match your hair color.

  • The needles are thinner and smaller than tattoo needles, so scalp micropigmentation is usually less painful than getting a tattoo.

What happens during scalp micropigmentation?
We use a needle to deposit medical-grade pigment on the desired areas of the scalp. The dots vary in size, angle and depth to provide a natural, hairlike appearance.

Your treatment may take a few hours, depending on the size of the treatment area. Most people need two or more treatments, spaced several weeks apart. Each treatment adds more pigment to create the look of thick hair.

What happens after scalp micropigmentation?
Since there’s no surgery or anesthesia, you can go back to daily life quickly. There are very few side effects of scalp micropigmentation. You may have some redness on your scalp that lasts several hours. You can wear a hat or scarf to cover the scalp if you want.
