Types of Hair Loss in Men

Hair loss can affect men in different ways. Understanding the pattern and possible causes is the first step towards choosing suitable treatment options and creating a realistic plan.

MALE PATTERN HAIR LOSS

The most common form of hair loss in men, often causing a receding hairline, thinning through the top and reduced density around the crown.

CROWN THINNING
Gradual thinning or balding around the crown of the head. This is often one of the earliest signs of male pattern hair loss.

RECEDING HAIRLINE
Hair loss that begins around the temples and gradually moves backwards, often creating an M-shaped hairline or more prominent widow’s peak.

ALOPECIA AREATA
An autoimmune condition that can cause sudden, clearly defined patches of hair loss on the scalp, beard or other areas of the body.

DIFFUSE THINNING
A general reduction in hair density across the scalp. It may be associated with stress, illness, nutritional deficiencies, medications or other underlying factors.

A personalised hair and scalp assessment can help identify the likely pattern, explore possible contributing factors and determine the most suitable next steps.

Types of Hair Loss in Women

Hair loss can affect women in many different ways. Identifying the pattern and exploring possible underlying causes are important first steps towards choosing suitable treatment options and creating a personalised plan.

FEMALE PATTERN HAIR LOSS

Gradual thinning across the top of the scalp, often becoming most noticeable as a widening part and reduced overall hair density.

DIFFUSE THINNING
A general reduction in hair density throughout the scalp. It may be associated with stress, illness, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies or certain medications.
.

THINNING HAIRLINE & TEMPLES
Thinning or recession around the frontal hairline and temples. Possible factors include hormonal changes, genetics and repeated tension from tight hairstyles.

POSTPARTUM HAIR LOSS
Increased shedding caused by hormonal changes after childbirth. It often begins several months after delivery and usually improves as the natural hair-growth cycle recovers.

ALOPECIA AREATA
An autoimmune condition that can cause sudden, clearly defined patches of hair loss on the scalp or other areas of the body.

Not sure what’s causing your hair loss?

A personalised hair and scalp assessment can help identify the pattern, explore

possible contributing factors and determine the most suitable next steps.

Weight Loss Through Medication or Calorie Deficit

Significant or rapid weight loss can temporarily disrupt the natural hair-growth cycle and trigger increased shedding.

You are not alone—and we are here to help you understand what may be happening.

MEDICATIONS

Some people notice increased shedding while using GLP-1 medications such as Wegovy®.

CALORIE DEFICIT
Significant calorie restriction can place stress on the body and reduce the nutrients available.

TEMPORARY SHEDDING
This type of shedding is often known as telogen effluvium. It is usually temporary.

SUPPORT EVERY STEP
We assess your hair and scalp, explore your weight-loss timeline and possible contributing factors.

You’re not alone. Increased hair shedding after significant weight loss is common and is often temporary. A professional assessment can help identify the likely cause and guide the most suitable next steps.
